"A pacifist is a rare beast in a bomb shelter." The war in Ukraine tested our ideas on pacifism. When does pacifism turn into indifference? And how do current media and culture contribute to such an attitude? What do art and culture do in times of war? Should our cherished idea of pacifism be overhauled? The Ukrainian curator Alexandra Tryanova and cultural sociologist Pascal Gielen made the publication Passivity: Between Resignation and Pacifism, recently published by Valiz, with drawings by Polina Frank. They present the publication on this day. Pascal Gielen also traveled to Ukraine where he shot a film together with director/filmmaker Jan Beddegenoots. It will premiere tonight. Work by the Ukrainian photographer Alexander Chekmenev will also be on display. On this day he will open his exhibition 'Citizens of Kyiv' in De Studio. Authors and artists will also participate in a debate with politicians and peace activists.
