On Wednesday 26 November, Valiz presents, together with lesbian film club Pottenkijkers, the new publication Love & Lightning at Café Saarein. The documentary The Lesbian Avengers Eat Fire, Too from 1993 will be shown, and the Lesbian Avengers manifesto (which is also part of the book) will be recited. It is the ideal occasion to meet other activists from the queer community, and to get to know more about the activist Lesbian Avengers. You can also buy the book during the event!
Love & Lightning is a collection of manifestos with a queer, feminist, or queer-feminist point of view. It presents manifestos from 1851 until now, divided into eleven thematic chapters, introduced in their socio-historical and geographical context, with many manifestos from Asia, Africa and Latin-America. Per chapter, the manifestos jump through time and place (and sometimes out of it). This way, the book shows the presence of tough theme's like sexism, racism, exploitation and patriarchal suppression. At the same time, it emphasizes the ideological connection between the authors and the manifestos.
