KatyaGarcía-Antón is the editor of Art and Solidarity Reader (Valiz/Office for Contemporary Art Norway, 2022). She will explain how the book was conceived, what choices were made during the process, which aspects of artistic solidarity movements are being addressed, and how Indigenous values, actions and artists play a role in this. The book’s subtitle Radical Actions, Politics and Friendships invites to investigate further what Solidarity in the arts might mean.

Since the summer of 2022 Spanish-English Katya García-Antón is the director and chief curator of the Nordnorsk Kunstmuseum in Tromsø, Norway. Before that she was the director of the Office for Contemporary Art in Oslo, Norway. Both institutions are seminal in implementing decolonising and Indigenous methodologies, and giving stage to Indigenous art and artists. Garcia-Antón has curated many exhibitions worldwide. She was commissioner and co-curator of the Sámi Pavillion of the Venezia Biennale Arte 2022, and she was the main curator of the Spanish Pavillion of the Venice Biennale in 2011 (Dora García).

Art and Solidarity Reader can be viewed at Valiz’s table at Recreo.
