Valiz goes to Montréal!

- We are thrilled to announce that Valiz will present its activities and publications in Montréal, from 24 to 30 November 2025
- In collaboration with Matthias Kreutzer, Guy Cools (Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM)) and Pascal Gielen (Antwerp University)
A series of talks and an exhibition will present the content and design of selected Valiz titles, including Performing Mourning (2021), Trust (2024), Sensing Earth (2023) and Slow Technology Reader (2025). The programme includes various interventions taking place in multiple locations across Montréal.

GRAPHIC DESIGN AS FOCAL POINT OF A PUBLISHING MISSION
Astrid Vorstermans, the founder of Valiz, will give an online presentation about Valiz’ mission, its publishing and design policy and how its different series have been conceived and realized.

Graphic designer Sam de Groot will have an online conversation with Matthias Kreutzer about the design of Valiz’ vis-à-vis series and his typographic and artistic practice.|

Arts sociologist Pascal Gielen and author Guy Cools will talk about the history of the Antennae-Arts in Society series and present its two most recent titles Performing Mourning: Laments in Contemporary Art and Sensing Earth: Cultural Quests Across a Heated Globe.
At the launch two other new Valiz titles will be presented: Gielen’s Trust: Building on the Cultural Commons and Slow Technology Reader: A Tool for Shaping Divergent Futures, edited by Carolyn F. Stauss, director of the Slow Research Lab.
Lecture: Performing the City in Illiberal Times (This programme is not public, open to students of Fine Arts + Art Education at Concordia University)
Drawing on his book Trust: Building on the Cultural Commons, Pascal Gielen will explore the intersections of urban design, politics, and art, and the democratic spaces that emerge from their entanglements.
