Every year, an international community of professionals in the fields of art and design prepares a list of nominees. Then, the Artistic Board of the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art selects three prize recipients. Apart from Valiz, the prize will be awarded to: Christoph Niemann (visual artist, Germany) and to Elisava, School of Design and Engineering (art university, Spain).

Quoting from the programme of the Sutnar Prize: ‘The Ladislav Sutnar Prize is presented to living Czech and foreign artists for exceptional achievements in the field of visual arts, in particular applied art and design, and also for pedagogical work. The award can also be given to institutions whose programmes and activities support modern art and design.’

The Prize draws on the legacy of the Plzeň native and internationally renowned Czech-American designer Ladislav Sutnar. Some former recipients of the prize are Stefan Sagmeister (2021), Neville Brody (2020), the Gerrit Rietveld Academie (2018), and Anthon Beeke (2016).
