Green Archiving explores the intersection of archival practice and environmental sustainability, offering a radical reimagination of archives as ecological entities. It critiques conventional recordkeeping methods, which often perpetuate resource-intensive and preservationist paradigms, and introduces the concept of ‘green archiving’— a framework that integrates sustainable technologies, practices, and philosophies into the curation, preservation, and dissemination of knowledge. It draws on speculative theory, eco-criticism, software studies, decolonial and feminist studies, to propose new imaginaries for the future of archiving in the face of climate crisis. Through case studies, critical essays, interviews and speculative designs, Green Archiving fosters a dialogue that balances memory and preservation with ecological stewardship for future generations.

Green Archiving will be included in the ‘Making Public’ series that investigates ‘the public’, the civil domain where space, knowledge, values and commodities are shared.
