CAPS LOCK is the second book by Dutch designer Ruben Pater, after his successful first book The Politics of Design (BIS, 2016). The content of CAPS LOCK is the common thread in this first lecture of Elisava's MA graphic design.

CAPS LOCK shows in clear language and with striking visual examples how graphic design and capitalism are inextricably linked. The book contains many case studies of designed objects related to capitalist societies and cultures, and also examines how the training and professional practice of (graphic) designers support the market economy and how the practice of design is trapped within this same system. All of this makes CAPS LOCK an inspiring resourceful book for design students, educators, and visual communicators from all over the world.

Ruben Pater (1977, NL) works under the name Untold Stories on visual stories that support solidarity, justice and equality. Pater teaches graphic design and the MA Non-Linear Narrative at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.
