We Roma: A Critical Reader in Contemporary Art inquires into the contemporary moment through Roma knowledges as they resonate within artistic and intellectual practices today. In our current moment the so-called West’s misconceptions about progress are under pressure, and transformative shifts in politics, society, aesthetics, and economics are taking place. The book’s starting point is that we can better understand this situation by learning from the commonalities among the variety of political struggles within historically marginalized communities such as Roma in Europe. With the emblematic claim in the artistic imaginary 'we Roma', implicating within it society at large, how can we invoke the possibility of a different world and alternative futures?
